edapt Platform Glossary - Faculty

  1. concept: A granular grouping of information and/or skills. Learning objects in the concept are designed to teach students this information and/or skills. 
  2. intervention: A process by which students that are struggling with a concept, including its prerequisites, are identified so that an instructor may intervene to provide those students with additional support. 
  3. mastery percent: The percentage of accuracy in order to reach mastery in a concept. Scoring below the mastery percent may trigger scaffolding to a prerequisite concept, if one is present. 
  4. grade: The student's performance at the concept or unit level, which is the same and based on the mastery calculation of each concept. 
  5. prerequisite: A prerequisite is a concept that serves as a foundation for another concept. A student is scaffolded to a prerequisite concept if they struggle with the original concept. 
  6. remediation: A process by which students are automatically scaffolded to prerequisite concepts when they struggle with a concept (defined as scoring lower than the mastery percent set for a concept). 
  7. scaffolding: A process by which students are remediated with prerequisite concepts when struggling with a certain concept (defined as scoring lower than the mastery percent set for a concept). 
  8. unit: Within edapt.ai, a unit is a collection of concepts with in a learning path. Students progress through a learning path one unit at a time.
